Boba Themed Party Idea
Over the past year, I’ve seen more and more people host boba themed birthday parties. Boba, also known as bubble tea, originated in Taiwan by a woman named Lin Hsiu Hui who added chewy tapioca balls to her milk tea. Since then, “boba culture” slowly blew up since the 1980’s and now you’ll find multiple bubble tea shops lined upt along almost every block in the streets of Taipei.
One of my fondest memories of visiting my family in Taipei was what I almost always did after arriving straight from my red-eye flight from Vancouver. Immediately after unloading my luggage, I’d walk (more like sprint like a weirdo) two blocks away just to get my first cup of that delicious boba milk tea. That caffeine and sugar content is sure to keep anyone awake for their battle with jet lag!
Boba to me represents more than just a drink. It represents a piece of my culture. And because I can’t fly out to visit anyone during this pandemic, I feel a void that can briefly be fulfilled when I create asian-inspired art such as this boba balloon mosaic shown below:
This DIY boba balloon came straight from my heart and it’s the perfect boba party decor for any bubble tea party. This original design brings me so much joy when I teach other boba lovers around the world how to make this for their DIY boba party.
This photo above was created by Nakeita, a workshop student who has never worked with balloons or foam structure building before! It makes my heart do a happy dance every time I see a student’s creation!
The link to the workshop can be found here. The purchase includes a 40” boba structure template, unlimited access to the DIY boba balloons workshop, and a full list of materials. Everything can be found at the dollar store, Michaels, and on Amazon (US and Canada).
The link to the DIY boba balloon kit can be found here. This boba balloons kit includes everything listed above (workshop, template, list of materials), with the addition of all 6 types of balloons in varying colors and sizes! This is recommended for the DIYer who doesn’t want to spend a lot of their time hunting for balloons.
Thank you so much for reading this blog post! More boba inspired ideas to come :)
